Adolf Liebeskind

A TESTAMENT TO HERITAGE AND HEROISM IN THE HEART OF KRAKOW

Adolf Liebeskind

The owner, Mr Adolf Liebeskind, was granted planning permission in 1907, and the resulting building has survived to this day. Adolf Liebeskind, alias “Dolek”, was known mainly for his involvement in the underground resistance during the Second World War. He became the leader of the Jewish Combat Organisation (ŻOB) in Kraków, which, in cooperation with Poles, took up the fight against the Germans. He took part in numerous combat operations. He was shot by the Gestapo during an arrest attempt on 24 December 1942. “Dolek Liebeskind was not only a wonderful man, but also a great humanist. You could talk to him about anything, and even confide in him about your private affairs.” Józef Grzesiak “Czarny” – a soldier in the Home Army and the Grey Ranks – also lived in Liebeskind’s tenement house.
